So cesperanza discusses 3 different literary goals/critical orientations for literature and relates them to fanfic.

Namely:
Mimetic/Represntational - art as imitation of the world
Pragmatic/Purposeful - art as effect on the audience
Expressive - art as product of artist

And I, in my current state of mind, is seeing a relation to vids as well: vids that reproduces the feel of the source, vids that are made to affect, and vids that are made *as* an effect of the fandom on the vidder.

Probably should be noted that there'd most likely be an overlap of two or more of the categories for most vids, and thus it's facinating to note where they *don't* overlap.

(Though perhaps more facinating to me currently 'cause I'm desperately trying to filter out the source for a specific expressive purpose, and it's killing my brain. warg.)

hey, will you be coming to bascon? It is local, full of slash fans, and they have a vid show (they'll accept new vids even if shown once at a con). I'd love to see you there. And some of your vids too. Oooh, the Ring! The Ring!

I sent the email to the registration person, but yeah, I'm going to go on Sat.

I checked the website and it seems that the vid submission page isn't up yet, but yeah, I'll bring my vids. (speaking of which, check your mail for a yousendit...)

I spoke to Stacey, the web master and the vid show person. She's working on updating the web page - this will be her first time accepting electronic submissions. I suggested she not worry too much - and keep the mail option for those of us who want to send in our own DVDs (me, me!).
