It was smart of the makers. Ah, now I see what you were getting at. Though I should warn you that to me, the text was distracting - there is the action in the vid itself, then action on the left, then action on the right, and if all are going on at the same time, they will not all register as important.

More thoughts...

I could just say "I love you for this vid - not only is it a rare fandom, but I can make heads and tails of it!" but that would not address why I am so delighted at it. I know you are a big fan of shiny things, but I do not know if you know I am not. I find shiny techniques in media tends to induce headaches, whether the medium is paint, film, vid, what-have-you. My brain is not wired to process shiny, that is all.

So, yeah, I love the simplicity in this. It has been said less is more.

Perhaps you could call me one of the "disenfranchised viewers" because my brain is not equipped to deal with most of what is out there in the vidding world. Granted, I have not seen a lot of the stuff out there, so I am probably making a broad generalization. I could fix this if I saw more vids, but do not know of any big archives. It is not helped by the fact that I know very few fandoms.

I think knowing the fandom is important to 'getting' a vid, but not completely necessary. If the vid-maker has a goal in mind and is able to communicate that - "this is a tragic love story," "this is just too silly to be believed" - then they succeeded in their goal.

The visuals are just as important as the sound, and matching them is key. They are the tools of the trade, and if they do not work, then it is that much harder. Both parts need to fit together, and if they do not, then there will be trouble ahead.

You cannot communicate with everyone who might see or interact with the vid, but you can try to reach out to most. This is probably done by just making the vid clear in terms of what its message is.

Of course, not being a vid-maker, I have next to no idea what I am talking about.
