yes, i totally second that and this is a perfect example of the "learning" i mentioned above. i actually had the same experience when a couple of weeks ago ces showed a friend laura's not only human and pointed out the perfect beat and it suddenly clicked for me. i had never noticed!!! same for effects. i spent the weekend playing around just a little bit and realized that some of the stuff i thought was really impressive was very easy to do whereas things i hadfn't even been aware took any effort were immensely difficult! so now i'm looking at all the vids i'd saved on my hd and suddenly my aesthetic is literally changing and my apreciation goes up and down with my new viewing filters...
as for the distinction between written and visual text...i am an utterly nonvisual person (and love the internet for being so utterly text-based :-) and avoid theater, film that isn't plot driven, anything that would have "taught" me how to view vids (not just from a technical but even just a comprehension level). so it's really a self-fulfilling prophecy where my lack of training made me avoid learning how to view ad infinitum... [b/c unlike reading poetry and novels, you can pretty much get a terminal degree and never have spent more than a few minutes with drama!]
