My best advice is just to plan like you are going. Block off the time, shop for plane tickets, find roommates, etc.
There were a lot of people who dropped out last year. People sign up with the hope they can go, and there are lots of not-so-awful life reasons that cause people to skip. There will be movement on the wait list, and the later it happens the more likely it is that other people on the waitlist won't be able to go because they have given up hope.
Don't give up hope. Stay positive and plan like you are going and you *will* go. I can think of at least four people who attended in 2005 who got in off the waitlist, and I wasn't even paying particular attention to that.
