EEEE!!

So like, I watched Casino Royale yesterday and that was allllll sorts of wonderful gritty violent yay. This is the snarky, dangerous, solid, and fucking hardcore James Bond that I'd always wanted to see, that was the James Bond in my head. It's the idea of James Bond, perfectly executed, and updated so that it's less misogynistic. And the action scenes! Bravo!! It's rare that I feel the thrill/fear any more at action scenes, but that initial chase scene was just utterly shivery and brill and all sorts of well-done. And that was the overall impression I got from the movie, that it was made by fans and that it was a work of much dedication and love.

And Dexter. DUDE! IT! ::flails:: AND! ::BOUNCES:: THEN! ::covers mouth over spoilers and squeals:: dude! fuuuuck. ::wiiiide grin:: (I'm watching it again as I'm typing. dayum, but that was a good ep)

AND! NEW HEROES TONIGHT! ::IS SO HAPPY OMG::

This is the snarky, dangerous, solid, and fucking hardcore James Bond that I'd always wanted to see, that was the James Bond in my head.

It is, in a word, Book!Bond, but with more explosions and chase scenes. The "the bitch is dead" line about Vesper at the end is verbatim from Flemming's book, as is at least half the torture scene (which I seriously expected them to alter to something less blatantly like a scene from non-con slash fic. They did leave out the blood).

I really liked the fact that they allowed Bond to have flaws--to be violent & brutal, to screw up, to almost fall when jumping off that crane in the first chase scene, to actually fall for Vesper's deception--and let some of those flaws come back to bite him.

Craig is way, way to blonde to work as Bond, but somehow, he does anyway--it's all in the voice and the body-language, and in the ability to look cold & aloof and woobie simultaneously. Judi Dench, of course, continues to be the bestest M ever.

They didn't get Felix Lieter quite right, but then, no Bond movie ever does.

The more I think about it, the more Daniel Craig is edging out Sean Connery as my favorite Bond.

I hadn't planned on it. I want to ask you if the actor is less fugly when he moves and speaks... but I don't know if you can tell me. Also? You're still obligated to either *call* me or listen to my phone post and leave a comment.
