I. Will. Not. Spoil. You.
Ok, first of all, let me say that I adore gunfights and explosions and really really really convoluted plots.
Like plot upon plot and doublecrossings and backstabbing everywhere.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico was this. And I loved it.
Still fixated upon PotC however...but:
Johnny Depp once again stole the show, or at least for me. A quirky-odd-brilliant-insane character that somehow still manages to be *real* and frighteningly talented at the same time.
The storytelling was a bit complicated at times, but I liked it. The way they revealed the romantic-interest thread was lovely; the action thread was harder to follow, but that's partly due to the prescence of the plots.
Some shots and scene setups/compositions were *gorgeous* and I *loved* the transparencies they used and the camera effects. Not Matrix-style, but highly effective.
Oh, and it's *funny* too! And snarking at it's genre; you'll see what I mean once you watch it.
Overall, it's not gonna be nominated for an Oscar, but I'm pretty sure it's going to at least affect any movie goer in *some* way. It writhed the pit of my stomach at times, it made me laugh and it made me confused and it made me surprised at bits of its plot twists and at camera shots and certain lines.
And if *nothing* else, go see Johnny Depp once again get lost in a character that only he could craft into something memorable.
