This thread has gotten me thinking on why perhaps Eyeless!Sands is so inexplicably facinating.
In particular:
We're seeing mettle we didn't suspect perhaps. With the gimmicks and the cell phone stripped away, with the puppetmaster's strings cut, he proves that he can be more than Sheldon Sands.and also

We're no longer seeing the man. We're seeing the myth.

I think that defeat, which he paid a huge price for, played a part in the man we saw him become in the streets of the city.Is it me or is there the implication of a Rebirth with the eyegouging? What with‘Mortal agony’ and determination and all the excess sloughed away; all his outer trappings shedded to become an all-monochrome, black and pale, in that scene where he gears up. He becomes, all at once, more weak and more surreally strong; he requires the guidance of a child but becomes seemingly superhuman in his ability to adapt and to move beyond.

Rising from the dust and ashes, and becoming deified.
actually, this could be taken one of two ways:
1) That the blindness forced him to become something more that he never was
2) That the blindness forced him to stop hiding his abilities.
I think that emotionally and psychologically (1) is most likely true though I like to believe that (2) is true in regards to the superhearing because I like to believe that Agent Sands is Just That Good. Although I also love the idea that he was suddenly forced to use his other senses and that he *met* the challenge and rose to the occasion like that (again more phoenix imagery).
It could be argued, however, that Sand’s actions and reactions were simply those required for him to survive. But that ability in and of itself is also supremely attractive.
I dunno. comments?
