Remedy by [livejournal.com profile] mimesere (Wes/Gunn)

because it's fun and snarky and I loved it even though I don't follow the series.
(btw, there's a fic where the same boys are naked and chained to the ceiling and it's absolutely freaking *hilarious*, could somebody point me to where this is located?)

[edit] The other fic is *also* by [livejournal.com profile] mimesere!!! GO READ.

Putting Down
SUMMARY: In which Gunn has a craptastic day.

[livejournal.com profile] wikdsushi's written Discslash! and it's Vetinari/Vimes!

It's preslash and it's slow with everything in shadows and implications and An Epic Battle of Confused Stares. Involves a baby, with an in-character and sharply dangerous Vetinari. (btw, no mpreg) and, y'know what? go check out the rest of 'er Discslash too.

[]

[livejournal.com profile] spike21's written more Sands/El. Read White Cane and please leave more of a coherent response than I was able to? cool, thanks.

[]

Also, have ya'll read [livejournal.com profile] lil_neko's humo caliente series (Sands/El) yet?
It's just gotten better and darker and more grimed the futher it goes, in a wince-worthy kinda way...

Crucible by [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka (El/Sands/Lorenzo)

First of all? I don't usually like threesomes. But I'm *really* glad I checked this one out.

I love the interaction between all the characters, and even Fideo, Lorenzo was made understandable, everybody's history showed through in their actions

and Sands? some very inventive cursing, a very interesting reaction to certain events, and just.

SO. very. ravished.

::massive squee:: Goodness.

but [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka takes a good 9,000 words or so to get there so you're in for a very good ride. (or as [livejournal.com profile] hippediva metaphors more gracefully, the 'jangling harmony' of everyone's vocalisations)

And don't worry about the intimidatingly huge inital paragraphs, they're worth it.

The Tempest by [livejournal.com profile] sparrowhawk723 bring up some interesting images of Bootstrap Bill that I'm not sure have been touched on yet. I'm not quite sure if I could pin down why I like this fic so much but there it is.

Do you want to see a Naked Jack? sure you do! ::grins::

Warning: NOT WORKSAFE

This update in Howard Dean's blog made me think of [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie's questioning the use of the term "UnAmerican." Am wondering just how far Dean is relying on pent up America's resentment of our government being "UnAmerican" and if it would work.

In theory I think it's gorgeous and awesome that Dean's calling for the people to help him take back our government. I'm just hoping that it'll work and that it won't get him assasinated or something. (::coughKennedycough::)

[livejournal.com profile] mauralabingi has a wonderful current project transcribing The Mysteries of the Court of London there's a link to what has been transcribed so far and it's...well. She can explain it better than I can.

The baroque and convoluted, nearly Dada, proto-soap-opera storylines featured wonders like a cross-dressing young peeress assuming her dead twin brother's identity in order to claim his inheritance, a ruined governess who goes on to become a star of the East End musical theater before being kidnapped by Italian bandits (and eventually becoming their chief!), a defrocked priest and a beautiful, ageing noblewoman of "vicious inclinations" who have a superheated, weirdly quasi-sexual relationship and who rob, cheat, swindle and murder their way through both high and low society before he poisons himself in prison and she commits suicide by jumping from the Monument -- a twist based on a real-life suicide that was hot news at the time, and which was rendered complete with breathlessly detailed descriptions of the villainess' brains splattered halfway across the Square when she hits -- and an enormous complement of stabbings, drownings, mysterious trap doors, shadowy figures, deceived innocents, stolen fortunes, lurking uncles, dens of vice, violated virtue, mistaken identity, and some amusingly cheap shots at the Prince of Wales.

Entertainment Weekly article on Johnny Depp

[]

"['Train' is set] in Los Angeles in 1953, it tells the overlapping stories of an African American caddie, a jaded police detective and the victim of a horrible crime. Its three-character structure and noir tone would make it a fine candidate for a movie; Dexter said Martin Scorsese had read it and expressed interest but couldn't fit it into his schedule. Dexter [the author] even had a casting suggestion for the lead role.

"Johnny Depp," he said. "I think if you told him he was going to play a 19-year-old black kid, he could do it. It'd be a challenge, but he's talented enough to pull anything off."

- from here

::ponder:: Y'know. I think I could see that.

::laughing so hard::

after schlepping around on metaquotes for a few weeks now, i can only be amazed by the sheer complexity and random absurdity of this internet-based phenomenon known as "slash." not that i would begrudge any pretty fictional character the right to arbitrarily bugger slap-silly any other character--far from it. let there be beautiful men frolicking in unlikely sexual pairings! that's my motto. but this having been said, i'd like to add the following: poor, poor Johnny Depp. i bet he thought he'd escaped the bootylicious purgatory of fanfic.

- from [livejournal.com profile] wicked_wish
go read the rest of it. ::giggles and shakes head:: poor Johnny indeed, never asked for the baggage of being a celebrity, but what can you do when you're born with bone structure that stunning?

[]

have you seen the [livejournal.com profile] current_affairs community yet? It's political slash, proof and ramblings.

[]

oh, and read this post in [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes AND IT'S COMMENTS. I think the comments are almost better than the post itself...
