[vid rec] Mosh

I've heard stories that people watched this video and started crying...I didn't cry, but came close. It uses a slow, decisive, gut-hitting base beat that's a bit slower than usual, and wow, is it effective. Image connected to word connected to beat connected to message connected to the *gut*.

I don't care what genre of music you usually listen to, there's enough reports from people who watched this who hated rap and was still affected. Just try it.

What am I talking about?

Eminem's new video, Mosh. It's available in multiple formats here and here and here.

It's powerful as a song, it is powerful as a vid, it is powerful as a message. The man is called a lyrical genius for good reason.

Check it out, pass it on.

[edit] various links gathered by embitca, including how to vote Mosh onto TRL...

Lyrics:
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible?
It feels so good to be back..

Scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel, reenergize, and rewind
I give sight to the blind, mind sight through the mind
I exercise my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight you take it as I? gonna whip someone's ass
If you don't understand don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi task
And juggling both, perhaps mastered his craft slash
Entrepreneur who has held long too few more rap acts
Who has had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mister kiss his ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

[chorus]
Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

To the people up top, on the side and the middle,
Come together, let's all bond and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

[chorus]

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us,
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's trying to tell us something, maybe this is God just saying
we're responsible for this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head nodding,
How could we allow something like this, Without pumping our fist
Now this is our, final hour
Let me be the voice, and your strength, and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme, just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply it by six
Teen million people are equal of this high pitch
Maybe we can reach Al Quaida through my speech
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil
No more psychological warfare to trick us to think that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes, it's all lies, the stars and stripes
They've been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And Replaced with his own face, mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you'll know why, because I told you to fight

[chorus]

And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator

I just saw the video on a link from someone else on my flist. I'm still breathless. It was so excellent. Thanks for posting the lyrics!

...Odd to say it, but this video has renewed my faith in American animation. (Yes, I know, that's an odd thing to say, but it's strange to come across actually GOOD animated art direction, and this thing had it by the truckload.)

I agree, very moving. Just... wow. Very wow.

Wow.

That was incredible - I downloaded the song a couple of weeks back and was blown away by the lyrics...and the video now just doubled that. I've always had a grudging respect of Eminem for being among the best at what he does - even if what he does is a genre I'm not personally fond of. But I think this song brought that respect up a notch, and if I buy his CD when it comes out it will be because of that.

Absolutely incredible video. Everyone should see that.

Oh thank GOODNESS I'm not the only person who cried watching the video (even if you didn't quite). I thought it was just the pregnancy hormones making me insane.

It's powerful stuff.

If you'd told me yesterday that I'd make my 12 year old son watch an Eminem video, I'd have asked what brand of crack you were smoking.

If you'd told me yesterday that my 55 year old mother would nod in fierce satisfaction at an Eminem video, I'd have upgraded that to crack with a heroin chaser.

Today, those things are true, and the world is a better place for it. Damn right I'm wearing a black hoodie to vote.

Count me in as one of those people who hate rap and were still affected by this video. Thank you especially for posting the lyrics, because I probably wouldn't have downloaded the video or the song otherwise. The man can write, there's no arguing with that.

I have to admit, that whatever else you may think about Eminem, the man is a gifted musician.

Does love a fight, tho'. Any and all, bring it on.

While I will continue to think that Eminem is something of an asshole, I will concede he has a good sense of rhythms and lyrics, and knows how to get his message across effectlivey.

Curse you for having me listen to an Eminem song voluntarily. And enjoying it. Curse you.

[identity profile] teleute12.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. I'm not much of a rap fan, and never took Eminem very seriously before... but wow, that is so powerful. I started crying halfway through, and my hands are still shaking as I type this.

I'm going to go buy myself an all-black hoodie tommorow.

Awww... thanks for the link! I'm seriously, seriously impressed by the animation. And by the content, though not /surprised/.

I had the strongest reaction to him unzipping his hoodie to reveal the suit. It wasn't as shivery/moving as some other scenes but had a spastic Awwwwwwww yeah reaction, his animated self looking the epitome of badassitude /with a purpose/. It had me grinny and optimistic despite everything before it, especially leading into the people marching. It totally brought out the baby Eminem fangirl who always knew he had something like this inside him.

I'm guessing there's no chance this is getting any play on MTV?

[identity profile] teainjuly.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
That's great. Really. He really *is* a genious. I am not from America but it still affects me. It's really powerfull!
If this clip will run on MTV over here in Germany..I'll let you know!

Dude, I cried.

I always cry at movies and political rallies, it's really kind of mindnumbing.

Good Christ this was amazing. I've always liked him in a "Hey, that white kid's funny" kind of way, but now he's on my make-out list.

Thank you so much for posting this! I don't watch MTV anymore (if it's even being played there), so I probably would never have seen it otherwise. I've always been pretty ambivalent towards Eminem, but this is really powerful. How can this country still be 50/50 towards Bush? Where is this 50% that's for him? And can we show them this video?
