The Max & Erma's thing--aside from the little thrill that it came from my (sort of) hometown newspaper--is just weird. And I spent several paragraphs of the article thinking, "Well, they must have a limit on the charities they can accomodate. Maybe the person just misspoke and really meant something like that." Then they mentioned the ferrets, and my desire to give everyone the benefit of the doubt was over. (Since I used to do volunteer work at the AIDS Services Center in Louisville, I feel a little more of their pain than usual, too.)

Underwood said Sandy McPhillips, the chain's community relations coordinator for Kentucky, told her that Max and Erma's had experienced "negative political fallout" from previous AIDS-related fund-raisers.

I would blame the people who complained to the chain for holding them before. And I fully believe that people did complain, because people are idiots. I wouldn't be surprised if church groups held boycotts, or something equally stupid, although they didn't elaborate. Welcome to Middle America.

I've no idea how I found your LJ but the Brazillian wax thing had me ON THE FLOOR convulsing with a serious case of the giggles. Thank you for the one good laugh I've had all day!

Cheers!
