Like you know where Sin City was innovative stylistically but took it's roots and themes from Film Noir? Old Boy was innovative EVERYWHERE.

And! was psychologically *perfect*. WHOA.

Old Boy rocked, but it was in places a bit too twisted even for me ;)

I loved the way the movie feels like manga - the camera angles, the narration, the flashbacks, especially the fight scene in the corridor. It had this emotional intensity taken to extremes. I haven't read the manga it was based on, but I've read things like MPD Psycho, which are in the same vein. It was a major case of deja-vu.

But, well, there's a reason I stopped reading MPD Psycho. After a while, the towering-on of horrible things just got too much. I call it my Kill Bill syndrome, since it's the same thing I felt about the Crazy 88 fight in Kill Bill vol.1 :S

Hey, sorry for poking my nose in like that, but is the Old Boy you're talking about the korean movie? I deliberately stayed away from that because of the violence, but find myself reading MPD Psycho now and tolerating it better. Odd.

Yeah, same movie. It's about on a par with MPD Psycho in violence and weirdness terms, only without the plants growing on people's uncovered brains ;)
