So I was watching various animes and me and
lierdumoa were wondering why anime vids have perfect beatwhoring and yet almost no pacing whatsoever.
Then it hit me:
Teenage boys have NO SENSE OF FOREPLAY.
WHATSOEVER. (most of them, that is ::sends blessings to the enlightened few::)
Now think of the average anime vid. ::waits for it:: Doesn't that make so much more sense now? =D
Also, they've probably haven't been fandom trained in either
1) creating narrative (ie. rising-climax-ending)
2) subtlety (ie. looking for slash clues)
More on this later perhaps...but in essence the general anime vid aesthetic *is* sex. It's just sex via teenage guy.
d'oh. ::headdesks::

lierdumoa: it's like the whole vid is coming...MAKE IT STOP.]

To expand on what I asked you, what's your opinions on this thing's pacing? I feel it's severely lacking in some areas, but I suffer from lack of vocabulary, and lack of a vidder's eyes, so I'd love to hear your thoughts/initial reaction/whathaveyou.
Also. HOW DID THEY DO IT and is it really as hard as it looks? ^^;

What I got from this vid is that it's basically a celebration vid, like the song itself is; but all it really does is illustrate the chorus of "never give up" with various anime characters that would say that statement. Most of the lipsynch is beautifully matched, but I don't think the facial expression matches with the feel of the song always, nor the context in the anime.
The thing with the pacing in this vid is, I think, the fact that there is nowhere to "pace" to. That quote list that
"A screenplay doesn't have structure, it has trajectory."
-- Fred Haines
And really, it applies for vids too; this particular vid has a moderately set structure, but no real trajectory, and thus shaky pacing. Not that one leads to the other; but rather that having no trajectory makes it harder to figure out what pace your vid should be at unless you are very aware of both sound and song structure and the subtleties in both. This is speaking only of my personal experiences in vidding tho, and my personal aesthetic.

*laughs long and hard* (there's more foreplay in that statement!)
cheers.

Yeah, pretty much. I know more about adolescent boy rock bands than anime vids, but -- surprise -- same principle applies.
