2) I need a non-vidder to preview a beta version of a McShep vid. Any takers? I'm looking for comments along the lines of, "This part at (timestamp) is boring" and "I was kinda lost here" and "the whooshy thing is neat!" Nothing complicated, just a fresh set of eyes.

3) clipping for Suspicion made me realize that it's canonical that Sheppard can activate Wraith tech 'cause of his Ancient gene and it *wasn't* just introduced in Lost Boys. o.0 whoa. That...and it's not necessarily the other way around 'cause the Wraith in The Defiant One couldn't. I'm not sure what this all means, but that's kinda cool.

I wouldn't say that that's any evidence that he can canonically activate wraith tech. It was a device specifically designed to detect Ancients and send out a signal, because the wraith were trying to wipe out all remainders of the ancient gene in the pegasus galaxy. It doesn't speak for Wraith technology in general.

Well, I find it interesting that something like Teyla's necklace beacon even exists. A Wraith device that not only detects but activates with the ATA gene! For one, the beacon shows the Wraith are aware of the gene and that its presence means Ancients. It also seems to support Zelenka's fears in "The Siege" about the Wraith being excellent at reverse engineering Ancient technology. A fact that is further demonstrated in both "The Defiant One" and "Aurora."

It's the latter implication that keeps me from ruling out Wraith technology having some sort of biological lock similar to ATA. From "The Defiant One," it seems the Wraith don't actually have the gene. How then did they manage to make and test something that wouldn't work for them? The Wraith expertise at fiddling with Ancient tech explains this but, logically I think, if they could do such for the ATA gene, there's no reason why they can't build a lock into their own technology—a relatively easy task in comparison.

Granted, there's nothing in canon that explicitly points to this, but there's nothing that rules it out either. Thus far, we've seen the expedition members using the Wraith stunners and grenades, the damaged dart in "Duet," and the not-quite-so-damaged dart in "The Lost Boys." The Wraith infantry weapons are likely too mundane to have an ATA-like lock. The darts, however...

Assuming the darts do have some sort of lock, Zelenka and his team working on the "Duet" dart is then akin to super!Wraith hot-wiring the jumper in "The Defiant One." Zelenka et al. didn't restore all the dart's functions—just hacked into the culling beam.

Jace and McKay, OTOH, actually fixed their dart, and at least one of Ford's men tried to fly the thing besides John. With little success, apparently, but due to poor piloting rather than the technology not responding. Thing is, all these people (with the exception of John) are pumped full of the Wraith enzyme. Which is clearly affecting their physiology in some way. Enough to trick the Wraith dart into activating? Maybe.

Sheppard, of course, has his "Conversion" experience behind him. Traces of that could explain how he is able to fly the dart despite not being on the enzyme (or so Ford says).

Really, this is all an attempt to come up with an explanation for why the Wraith specifically wanted the pilot of the dart. Then, by all appearances, sniffed around until they got Sheppard.
