WARGGGG and a note on crack
OH MY GOD MOST. HEADDESKING. DAY. EVER.
For the first part, I have difficulty teaching things because I come at ideas at an angle and I teach that way.
For the next, the girl parents cajoled me to teach has only been in America for a year.
For the last; I went into this expecting to explain English terms and easy stuff like that. But noooooooooooo, the ENTIRE TEXTBOOK was attempting to Instill The Soul of Poetry into Young Minds.
POETRY.
::froths::
That.
I.
WTF MAN. WTF.
I normally adore ee cummings and Silvia Plath but I HAVE NEVER HATED THEM SO MUCH AS TODAY.
I mean, trying to explain how "rpophessagr" becomes "grasshopper" and how an elephant in the room symbolizes pregancy in Chinese and I'm trying desperately hard not to stereotype except the girl doesn't read for fun at all and why it even matters and and and
my head hurts
...
I'm gonna go commit crack!porn to recover, I think.
Oh! speaking of which.
commodorified explains why breaking the rules of style is a bit like committing buggery. , which I think is much of the awesome and so very true.
And also, I'd realized, much like the rules I was using for writing crack.
Basically,
1) It's crack, it's strange, revel in it.
2) Realize exactly why the crack is compelling, and stomp on that fic-kink and fic-hot-button HARD.
3) The more they're laughing and/or going OMGwow, the less chance they have to have to realize they're reading crack. Comedy brings people together; it acts like lube, smooths the way for difficult issues and whatnot. (incidentally why so much horror gets combined with comedy)
4) If you're writing the crack completely out of bitterness and anger, it's not gonna work; write the crack out of love, yo', and fondness.
addendum to both 3 and 4) Writing smut helps
further addendum to both 3 and 4) Writing the smut to be hot helps more.
and on that note I'll toddle off to write some more of The Host And The Body, ta!

Ouch. How do you connect with someone like that? It's suggestive of a completely different starting point for an outlook on life, and seriously, how do people live like that? I've had friends with so many ideas so different from mine, but I don't think I've ever had a friend who didn't suck up books and stories obsessively.
