Watched the opening, and my thought was "Naruto, why so gay for Sasuke still? He doesn't love you!" And then it turned into a waking-nightmare mid-drown, which was psychologically cool. Then it had Sakura's hand and Kakashi's hand and the hands of the village supporting him and pushing him to the sky and YES I TOTALLY LOVED THAT. I'm still a softy for Naruto's sappy OPs and endings.
I haven't watched the anime since the beginning of the time jump, and I stopped reading the manga around the mid-400s, so... when is all this, anyway?
The last thing I remember is [Konoha blowing up and not enough people dying and the author totally wasting Sakura and Hinata while usely baby (but male) Kohohamaru got to kill a fucking Akatsuki warrior and we didn't see Tsunade fight which made me so mad] and I was worried about Kakashi but I don't even remember if I read the ending to that or not.
ah, that's the Pein arc. Kakashi gets resurrected and catches Naruto when he was teetering over. Sakura keeps getting shanked, confessed her ... 'love' of Naruto to get him to give up on Sasuke and he was like, "I don't believe you".
However! We get an awesome female Mizukage and Konan went out in an awesome way. AND Kushina was way more pwn than anyone expected.
I don't even remember who Konan is... is she the girl who is Sasuke's lackey? Or is she "the chick" of the trio that became Pein?
I remember now that they tracked down the really-REALLY-PEIN-THIS-TIME guy (except it was his friend) in his cave with his decaying self and his protective girlfriend and it was like, "Really, I'm just mad at everyone and sad inside because I needed a hug and that's why I started World War XVI."
I'm sure there must have been more to the explanation but that's all I remember...
I don't think I saw the Mizukage part yet, and I think...Kushina is the rose Akatsuki lady?
I feel I should probably get back into it so I can be encouraged to finish my Sakura/Kakashi perv fic...not that it's in any way related to canon at this point.

I keep wanting to headdesk over Sasuke because I think the best, most awesome, most powerful, and also as a side effect HAPPIEST thing Sasuke could do would be to say "Fuck you all, fuck this, and fuck those people too" to the whole town of Konoha and the Akatsuki, then go home to Orochimaru's property and start himself a new Sound village. He can be local master, he can rebuild his clan, and he can stay away from Konoha. When he's not in Konoha, I kinda like Sasuke. But every time it comes back to Leaf he turns into Crazy Stupid Nonsensical Decision-Making Sasuke and his cool character levels plummet for me.
KakashiNaruto. Too much potential for pranking each other and hijinks, and what with the I Believe In You and always catching each other first (even when there's other ppl around) and the whole feeding him ramen bit (and stealing Sakura's chair to do it) and the TEAMWORK ^______^. Oh, and movie 3 ::beams:: wherein it's essentially Kakashi's version of the Sasuke In A Barrel Arc except it has a happy ending. And you get lines like, "Kakashi's life is worth more than the village!" And, Hinata interrupting a touching moment between the two with, "How impure...I never knew that Kakashi-sensei had such preferences."
Crazy Stupid Nonsensical Decision-Making
oh, actually that bit's fairly psychologically sound for me, because that's the sort of decision-making you get when you're traumatized. And really, it's not gonna get better if Sasuke avoids Konoha, it's just gonna boil over and splash into things that remind him of the original trauma. Going away is only a temp fix, 'cause once he gets away and feels safe enough... it's all going to come out again.
And yeah, having been in that place of Crazy Logic, it feels totally rational while you're inside it. =\ And it doesn't really go away when you leave the place that traumatized you, it just comes out in interesting and new ways.
I haven't seen the movies except the first one. I can see Kakashi/Naruto, that could at least be healthy-happy aside from the initial teacher/student thing. Healthier than Sasuke/Naruto, anyway. I still remember being quite moved by that moment of Kakashi carrying home a nearly-dead Naruto after he fought BatWings Sasuke for the first time. Dramatic Piggy Back In the Rain!
... I seem to remember the early stuff a lot better than the recent stuff.
Well one of the initial reasons I was finally convinced is Kakashi increasingly going, "You're stronger than I am, you remind me of your father, I believe in you." Plus a couple gen stories I read that called into question whether Kakashi was really their teacher at all; I mean Kakashi did say himself that he doesn't consider them his students, but rather his soldiers. There's also the fact that 'sensei' is sort of a blanket term, and is used for doctors and people of status related to their skill (rather than birth status such as royalty), which is why you have people calling Kakashi sensei who've either never been taught by him or are his peers.
...tho the teacher/student thing is hot too. XD But that'd never particularly been a kink of mine.
Oh, btw, there's another dramatic piggyback, after Pein. Naruto's all stumbling back home, and then falls, and then Kakashi's suddenly there, catching him. And Naruto just sorta smiles and snuggles in. Like there's literal facesmushing.
XD and in regards to the word 'interesting', I meant it along the lines of 'may you live in interesting times'. If anything, being more irrational and illogical because the lashing out will happen towards things that doesn't appear to have any relation or proportion to the violence of the reaction, XD essentially more crazy and more stupid.

Konan is the rose lady.
Pein arc is... well Kishimoto's clunky way of talking about the issues of peace when everyone has too much history and Eye for an Eye-ness.
