So Howard Dean is not running for candidacy anymore.

Am I upset? Yup.

Does that mean his legacy ends? Nope.

He drew me into political awareness through the hope that he gave. And I will stay politically active because of the hope that still there.

Will I still vote Democrat for president?

Of course.

Does that mean Dean's forgotten?

Hell. no.

::keeps an eye on deanforamerica.com and grins in anticipation::

[edit] from dfa.com, quote from Dean

"My political career has never been about getting elected. I didn't even seek the governorship. I became governor because my predecessor died in office twelve years ago.

My political career is about change. And this campaign is about change. What we're going to do here is, we're first going to change this party because this party needs to look in the mirror and ask itself: Is this party about the next election or is it about changing America?

This party needs to be about changing America, because only by changing America will we win back the White House.

I want a party that stands unashamedly for equal rights for all Americans.

I want a party that stands unashamedly for health care for every single American.

I want a party that stands unashamedly for balanced budgets and taking care of poor kids and voting together and healing the divides instead of expressing the divides and exploiting them the way the Republican Party has so shamelessly done since 1968.

I need your help.

We're going to change this party, and then we're going to change this country, and we're going to take back the White House, and we're going to balance the budget, and we're going to have healthcare for everybody, and we're going to have an America with its best institutions - right up to the Capitol - that looks, once again, like America."

...have I mentioned how much I love this man? yes.

People power, all the way, baby. :-)

Yeah, I was disappointed to see that he'd withdrawn from the official race. I don't watch the news on TV much anymore, but I'd heard several of his speeches and I really thought that he would be the best candidate to be president. I liked his views on a lot of things, and the fact that he was able to use the internet to such advantage. I wonder if he could/would run as a VP with one of the other candidates, because that would be a good springboard for a future presidential run. Just my $0.02 :)

Will I still vote Democrat for president?

I will vote for the big head man as long as Bush stays away from all things white and houses.

I'm sorry, darlin'. Very sorry.

I'm voting Democrat no matter who's against Bush.
Sorry about your Dean.

I'm sorry, but then again, I'm also happy. Because you're still not giving up on the democracy, which is broad and messy and sometimes horrendous, but always amazing.

I've been following this through you, and when I saw on msn news that he was withdrawing and I went to read the article, I really felt bad, I wanted to say I'm sorry to you, because you were so behind him: I trust in your judgement, which is one reason I feel bad, but also? He seemed like a genuinely good guy.

But that you are keeping fighting earns a great big SÍ. Proud, today. :)

(I could insert the "still standing" line here, but that might be a bit too much. :D)

*hugs*

So Howard Dean is not running for candidacy anymore.

I have to confess to being rather disappointed about that--for one thing, his campaign was getting a lot of college age voters who might not have been motivated otherwise into politics.

I gather from Newsweek that Kerry is now the favourite for the Democrat nomination. How does he stack up? (aside from his essential-Not-Named-George-W.-Bush-ness)

Kerry, though not my candidate, has been much maligned. He's not as good as he would like us to think he is, but not nearly as bad as many people say. He has a generally good record, he has done some truly corageous things in his lifetime, and he will be a good President if he is elected--though conservatives will want to kill him since he doesn't like guns or executions.

John Edwards is more fun! Check him out :)

I know it must hurt right now, but I want to thank you for keeping the faith. Those of us who want a more free nation, a more just nation, one in which American citizens don't disappear into the night, and telephones aren't tapped without a warrant, where the Bill of Rights actually mean something are going to need you and your enthusiasm for the coming battles.

Gird your loins!

Reading your posts about Dean have been so encouraging; I'm still encouraged. Change, change, change, more change.
