First, I've turned off direct linking a long time ago. You can do it via your own Cpanel which never really worked for me. So, I created an .htaccess file with the help of this wizard:

http://www.htmlbasix.com/disablehotlinking.shtml

Just follow the instructions but remember to include only the URLS that you want to be able to hotlink from.

I also created a direct linking image (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/silverhawk/layout/linker.jpg) in place of it and uploaded it at a free image host so it will always direct itself somewhere else and no longer on my domain. I create it big, I create it bright because believe it or not, a lot of them have pretty layouts.

I also write a note on my site that if anyone direct links, they only get that direct linking image and I let them see it.

If I do catch someone direct linking, I write them an email [...] to explain why direct linking is wrong, [...] and this link to tell them if they can't read English, it's all translated here:

http://www.obsess-much.com/directlinking

And then I shoot them a suggestion for free image hosting providers so they have no excuse to not save it to their own site:

http://silverthoughts.net/rightclicklick/faq1.html

and then tell them to remove or I will report them to their ISP as a violation to the terms of their host. Most tell me to fuck off. Someone called me a bitch and didn't care what I did so I reported her to DeadJournal abuse and I had her Deadjournal deleted.

This is very interesting... but you might want to warn people that the 'phenomenal woman' site tries to install a trojan spyware on the visitor's PC...

Personally I don't mind direct linking, but I think my set up might be different to others. I just hate it when people take my pictures and put them on their own sites without asking. That aggravates me far more.

Oh boy have I had the hotlinking thing done to me! I have a stack of fanlistings and it really ticks me off when folks try to join one while still hotlinking. The worst culprits are those kids with Polish or Italian blogs. Some understand and upload the buttons to a photobucket account, but the others don't care. Ah well, I have that htaccess thing in all my domains and all they get is a black with a red cross in it.

Oooh, just in time! I'm going to be putting up some doujinshi scans soon and have been looking for how everyone prevents it.

Who is that guy in your icon? Is it wrong to think he looks hot (drools any way)? Is his name Trigun, or is that a book/show/whatever?

*runs and hides after showing how ignorant she is in the anime/magna world*

Honey, if thinking Wolfwood looks hot is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Trigun is the name of the anime and manga (comic book). Icon boy above is Nicholas D. Wolfwood, traveling preacher and sometime companion of Our Hero, Vash the Stampede (icon boy right here).

Trigun is the most fun you've ever had with your clothes on. Gunplay! Angst! Pretty boys! Men with wings! Whee! I could talk about it all day long and am actually going to do an overview Wednesday (eek!) on [livejournal.com profile] try_this_fic. It starts off kind of goofy and weird, and then gets really dark and interesting (though still goofy and weird in places).

The anime shows on Saturdays on Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim"; Saturday's ep (at 1:30 and 4:30 am EST) is "Murder Machine," the episode that introduces Wolfwood (teh Sexy) and also one of my favorites.

The manga's available legally and in English from Dark Horse and they carry it at my local comic shop and my local Borders. Next volume's coming out this month, squee!

So, uh, thanks for asking. I love to pimp Trigun. I can give you lots more places to find piccies and fic, too, if you'd like.

Checking out the fic links [livejournal.com profile] permetaform has but I quite willing to have more recs of both the pics and the fics.

I was checking out amazon for the dvd prices and they seem to have a box set at $173. Is it worth the whole series? Or should I buy them by show? It doesn't seem to be something we get here in Canada, we are notoriously lame when it comes to anime.

Made an icon out of the picture, hope that was okay.

I would see if you have any friends across the border with Cartoon Network: they can tape it for free. Netflix carries it too. I bought the whole series but I'm completely frikin' obsessed. Icon away, and my recs and suchlike are up on [livejournal.com profile] try_this_fic now. [livejournal.com profile] angstymcgoth has more recs than you can shake a stick at, too, including a LONG Japanese fanart/doujin post a couple pages back (I think).

Thank you for these. Very nice. I am hooked before I have even begun.

*grins* Someone I know, tho I forget who, apparently once changed the image being direct-linked-to with another image of the same filename that said "I STEAL BANDWIDTH." That cracked me up beyond belief.
