(Saw Serenity last night.)

"I am a leaf on the wind."

So I google-searched, 'cause I was curious...it's an inspirational story apparently:
[...]

Leaf was shaking and Wind could see the fear beginning to overtake Leaf. Wind added, "Keep your promise not to give in to hate and sorrow and when the time comes for you to fall, I will be there to catch you. It will be a beginning and not an end for you."

[...]

"You are falling! Plunging," shouted Tree.

"I am soaring like a little bird," Leaf sang out. "See how I go!"

Leaf felt something lift it up. It was Wind come to keep its promise. "I cannot take you far right now, just to rest on the ground. No matter what happens, do not be afraid. I will return for you."

You know what's a bit weird?
Just as I read and commented, Coda fromOnce More, With Feeling started in iTunes, with it's big final line. "Where do we go from here?"

Oh, wow, that's incredible. *wibbles with you*

Reading that so soon after reading [livejournal.com profile] trensaddiction's drabble To leave no man on the field (about a certain winged creature and a (sometmes) leaf-patterned character) adds a whole extra layer of symbolism and poignancy.

*sighs*

........everybody's talking about Serenity, and me not wanting to waste 3 hours (which I *always* do whenever I open Google), I have to ask - what is it?

Serenity is a feature film based on the short-lived TV show, Firefly, by Joss Whedon.

And it's really, really good. :)

I actually had that book as a child.

The fact that it ties in to Serenity makes me both weepy-happy and very, very sad.

But. *hugs character*

I so lie. There's a similar line in the book I had as a kid: The Fall of Freddie the Leaf. It was less inspirational and more designed to help kids cope with death without any specific religion.

a friend of mine is convinced it's taken from the fourth poem down here (http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/2759/LarryMOlson.html):

So laments an Irish lullaby of a life passed
Like a leaf on the wind.
Innocently it yields to the winds call.
The leaf and wind, then, soar together as one,
With no thought, as the journey is begun,
That when it lands the journey is done.
