So like, sometimes I dreamed of being able to read a fic and, y'know, mentally rec it to my flist.
I think this is the next best thing.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
I can link to stuff with just several mouse-clicks. ::awe::
::fucking awe:: I've been playing with this for the past hour. There's already over 139 cross-referenced recs in there.
cross-referenced.
I.
This.
::boggle::
I think. I think I'll actually move the entire body of
permetaform_rec onto there because holy fucking shit. cross-referencing.

1) Is there a way to archive/back up/save a copy of all of the items you've bookmarked in del.icio.us along with the metadata (which tags you've assigned them)? Because yes, I am paranoid and anything that can't be backed up can cease to exist with alarming ease.
2) I've been trying to figure out a good way of organizing what tags to use so that I can easily mark episode-related fics, pairing-specific fics, character-specific fics... and I couldn't decide if I wanted to try to include either a small summary of the fic, or if I wanted to include why I personally liked the fic... there's a spot for "description" and a spot for "notes" and if I can remember to keep those two things set aside for the summary and my rec reason(s), maybe that would work... you're not using tags to mark which fics are episode-specific, are you? Other than that, I think you've figured out a system which does most of what I want with the tags, descriptions and notes, right?
The other thing is that I have been wanting to use del.icio.us for more than one fandom, and figuring out how to standardize the tags so that that will continue to scale was... a daunting project.
But youre squeefulness might just be enough to tip me over into solving these issues and getting my recs caught up. That would be really, really nice...

2) tags in del.icio.us work without needing commas (as in lj) instead use periods to separate words, the notes allow a fair amount of words, and it automatically tracks how many other people linked to it as well. also, you can just click on "copy" on someone else's links and add your own info and then "submit" and it appears on your own list. also? you can select tags with a mouseclick. I cannot. get.over.this.
actually I'm tempted to go ahead and do the FandomPairing type...I think there's an option that can go back and change all your previous tags too...

You? Have the soul of a library card catalog, or possibly the child of a Rolodex and an Excel sheet. *snerk* I say this with all my love, of course.
Not to mention this will make it all *so* much yummier on our parts. ^^ ♥

The updates at the bottom of that second page look very, very interesting.
I haven't figured out bundling yet. But I'm getting there. :-)

Once you're displaying that, there should be a bar on the right hand side of the screen that has a bunch of options. One should be 'export'. Click that and another window that says HTML export should come up. Make sure both boxes are selected, then click the 'export to HTML' button. You should be able to save this file to your hard drive and then import it with whatever browser you use with intact tags and description. (To be fair, I've only done this with Firefox myself, but the URLS and metadata survive in the HTML file and the bookmarks were almost perfectly clean when I tried reimporting them into my browser.)
(Er! Sorry to hijack this thread, but I thought this might help a little, as a lot of the solutions in the sites you listed below are way, way technical and complete overkill.)

it's not at all set up, yet, just a few things, but i figured i'd get the ball rolling. :)

I'm going to be playing with this for quite some time - especially since I found it just now when my life is going to get a lot busier than it has been. *pout*

I am hoping no one does this with mine, as I have attempted no organization whatsoever.

del.icio.us is eating my soul -- I just started using it a month ago to keep track of the SGA 'fic I was reading and now I'm so in love with it that I'm actually going back and systematically indexing all the fanfiction I've saved to my hard drive over the past two years.
(And since I'm already doing the hijack thing and you mentioned it earlier, would you like me to walk you through how to do tag renames or anything of the sort?
I'm actually thinking about writing up a comprehensive guide to del.icio.us, fandom-version, since all the guides I've seen so far are very 'well, this is del.icio.us, go play!' and totally leave out the practical stuff like tag bundling and how to import bookmarks onto your hard drive but I'm not really sure what kinds of technical questions people would have or whether or not there would be any demand for that kind of thing.)
