There...is a problem.

See, I went on a retreat for this weekend and came back and...

Vash is missing.

Wait, lemme clarify: Vash, my goldfish, is missing.

I would understand if Vash decided to go belly up. I would be peeved, but I would understand. [Wolfwood died before him and it was only a matter of time after all ;)]

But, see, there was no body.

No. Body.

Words cannot expressed how utterly confused I am...

[update]

It was in a pan, no filters; and I've checked behind the desk, no body.

[update2]

Checked through the paperwork on the desk. No fish. Windows were closed, so it couldn't have flown or flipped out.

Going to check the fridge...wish me luck.

[update3]

checked fridge AND freezer.

no fish.

::is stumped::

[update4]

...and here's the thing, I REMEMBER putting Vash back into the pan after I washed it out 'cause it looked vaguely confused. I was amused that it looked "er?" (much like Orlando Bloom) and then sprinkled some fish flakes on top.

Then I ran around getting stuff together for the retreat and then I ran out the door.

The fish flakes are still there, floating.

Somehow that's sadder than anything else.

[update5]

Expanding search parameters to 5m around last known location.

[update6]

...hairballs on floor. Still no fish.

[update7]

::ponders:: If it ascended, think it'll be back, come Easter?

[update8]

Roommate has returned and reports no fish sighting as she was gone for the week as well. As she is not prone to practical jokes or random thievery I am inclined to believe her.

We are suspecting the landlord.

Huh. That's just weird.

O.o

Could it have been eaten? Cats? Birds? Little brothers?

HE'S NOT DEAD IF THERE'S NO BODY

What this boils down to is that basically, apparently: Your goldfish ran away from home?

I had a turtle that got lost under the bed once, but never any fish...

Sunday, August 29th, 2004 01:36 pm (UTC)
sometimes fish get suicical and jump out and wriggle away. No joke. You find them a few days later under the bed or chest of drawers or something. It's an odd thing.
Sunday, August 29th, 2004 01:44 pm (UTC)
Maybe he's stuck in a filter or something? That happened to me once - at first there were three fish, then there was only two...we found the third a month later in the filter.

Either that or he simply ran away. Maybe you should put up fliers? *g*

Weird. How big is it? And how cluttered is your desk? You'd be surprised how long fish can flop around; it might've tucked itself into some random pile of debris.

You know, that actually happened to me once, only weirder: my family and I went away for the weekend, leaving no one in the house except for my two turtles, safely in their terrarium and my cat. When we came back, the turtles were gone. Completely gone. No rendered carcasses, no empty shells, nothing.

I'm sure Smokey is capable of figuring out how to lift off the lid to their home, eat their meat, and even figure a way to close the lid again using his little kitty paws; but I cannot imagine how he could have made the two mid-sized turtle shells disappear afterward. Spooky.

DId you lock your room before you left? Could someone have seen that Vash had died and disposed of the body for you?

I have experienced something EXACTLY like this. No explanation to this day.

LOL I had the same thought as Lum! Did the fish watch Lucky You?!?

O_o o_o o_O

Okay.

You know that place where the socks go when you wash them?

I'd give Mrs Who, Which, and Whasit a call, and check there.

Could someone be playing a practical joke on you? Could someone have simply taken the fish ... one would expect a ransom note of some kind, or some clues as to how to recover your beloved Vash.

I would definitely put up fliers! Plaster them in hall of your dorm, in the common room, in the dining hall.

The fish must be found!

I can't explain how disturbing yet funny and compelling this is. Please keep us updated! I will die of curiosity otherwise. ;) I think I agree with the people suggesting that he's still there, somewhere, you just haven't found him yet. Although... check the freezer? Maybe your roommates did come home, found him dead, but didn't want to have the funeral without you? This has actually happened to someone I know. ;) Good luck!

This same thing happened to me once! I found my fish later that day. It had apparently jumped out of the bowl and wiggled it's way under some furniture or other stuff on the floor. Perhaps the same thing happened to you? *blinks* If so, I'm sure the body will turn up eventually. Otherwise...I can only think that the poor guy has been fishnapped. Maybe you should call the cops and put out a missing fish report....*is puzzled*

Did you have any decorative objects inside your fishtank (shells, little treasure chests full of imitation Aztec gold, mini sunken ships, ect)? Because we once had a goldfish disappear when I was a kid only to find its bones weeks later when we cleaned the tank--it had swum inside a small conchshell and gotten stuck there.

Or maybe Cancerman and Co. took it, to perform genetic experiments on it in a secret government lab in hopes of breeding alien/piscene hybrids.

Or Vash could have gone to join his fellow plants. Are any of your lightbulbs glowing more brightly?
