Okay, been reading several rants in various places and. just.

Dammit.

Let me state this: I am an *American*, and I still believe that there's something worth saving.

I *am* American, for how it's shaped me, for how I am and had been and will be, even as it tries to cast me out (through media and culture and what have you) for being female. for being asian.

I love America, perhaps in the same way I love my family, because it's *my* country.

But you remember me talking about my family, right?

...

yes.

Because I still cry as America seems to crumble, even as I cheer at ever little improvement. Because America's stupid at times and idiotic sometimes and **goddammit** sometimes.

sometimes, America, I hate you.

sometimes, America, I despair and I hate you and I grieve and I hate you and I cry and I hate you, I hate you for what you have become.

But always, always, (do you know?) I am an American.

I still believe that that there is something here worth saving.

forgive me.

On the subject of Neil Gaiman getting cats up his nose, have you see Nice Hair? It's a brilliant webcomic starring Neil Gaiman, Tim Rice, and Fat Bob. And of you sort through the archives, you will find where Neil gets a cat up his nose.

But some establishment Democrats, both inside and outside the Kerry campaign, still intend to punish the Dean heretics

They're going to do what? Dean heretics? This is the Democratic party, not the Medieval Church. What are they going to do, place Vermont under an interdiction?

And right before an election? *nods* Good idea. Fireing people for no reason will get them so many votes.

As the Mum of five cats, yes, nodding my head. They do that.

Sweetie, it is perfectly okay for you to follow your heart for a change. And there is nothing wrong with being proud of one's nationality. I know it's supposed to be bad, but I am proud of being British and proud of being English and Welsh. Sometimes this darn country drives me to distraction, but it's mine. (((huggles)))

Except I'm not Asian. Heh.

This part made my eyes water.
