I'm on the quote-hunt again...googling as always, but just thought to see if anyone might know of something that might work.

In particular, I need something about chasing or hunting or loving the chase, maybe something about the game of cat and mouse or something similar. Any ideas?

[edit] ones found, any favorites?

"By scratching and biting, cat and dog come together."
- anon.

"It's simple. You run. We chase. If we catch you, you die. We'll give you three minutes head start." - Jez

"Those who will play with cats must expect to be scratched."
~ Cervantes

"Mieux vaut la chasse en amour que la prise."
--Étienne Pasquier, Jeux poétiques
In love, the chase is better than the catch.

"It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you’d better be running." - Anonymous

"Cats were put into the world to disprove the dogma that all things were created to serve man."
- paul gray

"There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter."
- Hemingway

"Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well." ~Missy Dizick

*blinks* Actually, your asking that reminded me a lot of a book I was uberly into in my younger teenage years. The first chapter was all about a hunt of sorts, so... well... maybe one of these will work.

LOL, and I accidentally hit "enter" before I could explain where it was from. It's a book called Huntress for L.J. Smith. And I was going to find more, but apparently there weren't as many good quotes as I remember.

Anyway. ^^ Glad it seemed to have helped.

....as a totally random person observing this thread, uhm, LJ Smith! I was such a fan back in the day. I was reminded of the trilogy for The Forbidden Game, myself, but couldn't remember any quotes off hand.

I adored "The Forbidden Game." Unfortunately, I don't own it, so finding a quote from it was impossible.

Awesome, awesome trilogy, though.

I'd do the same... I did own it, all three in one book, then I lent it to a friend. Not only did she never read it; she never gave it back!

But I totally thought of it, because didn't the second book revolve around that sort of chase thing? Oh, Julian. (I HATED Tom..)
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 10:25 pm (UTC)
Tom... aaagh. Julian was so much better. I fucking adored Julian.

lol In my case, I checked the book out from a library, but ever since I moved... well, I can't find any of her books anywhere, really.
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 10:26 pm (UTC)
Yeees, Julian. Julian forever and ever. Silly Jenny.

I think that's how I first read them, by the library.. It' so hard to find her books! It's really disappointing, too. Obviously, if I read them now,I'd probably be disappointed, but, I looooved them. Did she even ever finish the Nightworld series?
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 10:29 pm (UTC)
Actually, I've reread all her works I own recently... and I still adore them. Not as descriptive as I'm used to anymore, but hey, it's a teenager's series.

And no, she never finished it. O_o She keeps promising to, but I've been waiting 6 years and I've seen nothing yet...
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 10:33 pm (UTC)
I say I'd be disappointed just so I don't get my hopes up. It's been /ages/, but I recently read Peter Pan and /adored/ that, so, we'll see. Alas, the only ones I can find are.. the only ones I've been able to find for years, so while I'd like to check others out..

Darn it. I'd read about a book that was supposed to be out, but I could never find. Something about two soulmates..
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 10:36 pm (UTC)
Yeah. Last I've heard from her on that was late 2003, so... yeah.
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 10:37 pm (UTC)
darn it. :/

I don't recall any specific quotes, but have you ever been to wist.info? *loses hours on that site*

Hee, it's Tayuya from Naruto! She's one of the elite proteges of a big baddie, and that's her KILLER FLUTE which she plays when she's done cursing you out worse than a sailor.

try here (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/keywords/chase.html), and here (http://french.about.com/library/quotes/bl_quote_p.htm) where this: "Mieux vaut la chasse en amour que la prise.
--Étienne PASQUIER, Jeux poétiques
In love, the chase is better than the catch."

*grins* does that help?

I have this on a motivational poster. Heh.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you’d better be running." - Anonymous

I love the second one. ♥

There's the one in my userinfo, too. "You were born an original. Don't die a copy"? Murdoc Niccals. I love that quote. ♥

.. Oh. XD That's what I get for skimming over the entry and moving straight to the quotes. My bad!

If I find anything, I'll holler. :]

Étienne PASQUIER, Cervantes and Paul Gray are so good! :D
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 06:15 pm (UTC)
My vote's on either Étienne Pasquier or Cervantes.

From the Buffy episode "Fool for Love":

Death is on your heels, baby, and sooner or later, it's going to catch you. And part of you wants it. Not only to stop the fear and uncertainty, but because you're just a little bit in love with it.

--Spike

::sniff:: Nostalgia!

i just remembered a quote from "The Unbearable Lightness of Being".

What is vertigo? Fear of falling?[...] No vertigo is other than the fear of falling. It is the voice of the emptines below us which tempts us and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.

i know it doesn't have anything to do with the chase, but i've always really liked it.
cheers.

The first thing that popped in my head was Jack London...I'll get back to you when I'm less tipsy :)

That's my favorite. But in Lost, when Danielle came back and told everyone on the beach that 'they' were coming, she said a really good one...

"You have three choices; run, hide or die."

OOooh, gave me chills.

But I don't know if the type of quote you're looking for is of a romantic cat-n-mouse nature, or one that speaks to survival... Care to elaborate?

I must say - I rather like the Cervantes one.

I also found this:

"How much has to be explored and discarded before reaching the naked flesh of feeling."

Claude Debussy

which may not be exactly right but it does involve chasing and playing and has the right sort of intensity.

If a fox is unable to befriend a tiger, then the fox should create an illusion of close association with the tiger by carefully trailing behind the cat while boasting of the deep friendship they share. In this way, he creates an impression that his well being is of great concern to the tiger.
Chin-Ning Chu

(doesn't really work but large chunks of Deadwood make more sense now.)

Cats are autocrats of naked self-interest. They are both amoral and immoral, consciously breaking rules. Their "evil" look at such times is no human projection: the cat may be the only animal who savors the perverse or reflects upon it.
Camille Paglia

The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.
Ayn Rand
